Our Summer

This year has been so chaotic I haven’t even been able to do monthly posts. Really it was probably best I didn’t post for a few months due to all the major transitions our little family went through. Now that we are settling down and preparing for the weather to decide to stay cold for Fall, I would like to do frequent update threads again.

I’m not really going to sort this by month since it will be easier to just pick and choose favorite memories from our summer to share with you. Enjoy!!

We have so enjoyed visiting many trails over these summer weeks. Walking paths (or hiking trails) has become a new family favorite. Fox set the pace on a trail that was estimated to take 2 hours and we finished within 1 hour and 40 minutes! He is quite the trooper!

IMG_20170717_224941_909.jpg

Playing in the creek at several parks has been a favorite escape from the heat this summer. The boys absolutely love collecting “pretty rocks”, building piles, throwing large rocks into the water to make splashes, or running up and back down the creek exploring.

IMG_20170725_111838_778

Simple board games have become a favorite for Fox. Candy Land is one we play together quite often while brother is asleep for his nap. He also really enjoys memory card match games and working on puzzles together.

IMG_20170801_203500_485.jpg

One week this summer we went camping. It was a much needed relaxing time for all of us! I am already working on new camping plans for the fall before the night weather is too cold for the boys!

IMG_20170821_184248_496.jpg

We were in totality for this recent eclipse! Fox was so fascinated with everything going on and the changes in the sky and sun, changes in the temprature around us, the energy of all the people there who where also excited about this phenomenon!

IMG_20170904_163228_310

I have tried to take the boys to various different parks around us, seeking out a park when we visit a new area, or just visiting our favorite parks many times over this summer. The boys love parks!

IMG_20170904_162437_376.jpg

I have been collecting crystals left and right this summer, and of course the boys are fascinated with them and want to hold or play with them so… I started having them pick out their own each time they are with me when I go to a store. Slowly they are building beautiful little collections too!

IMG_20170916_164632_825

We went to a “Things That Go” event at one park. Fox was able to climb in so many different types of trucks and work vehicles! Fire trucks, helicopter, monster truck, school bus, run down a tow truck ramp, various tractors and road repair vehicles, water trucks, so many vehicles! It was wonderful for him! He talked about it for days.

IMG_20170930_071657_723.jpg

Fox has become quite the little climber! This kid is so strong it is surprising. He loves rock walls or rope climbing areas that are at some of the parks we’ve visited this summer.

IMG_20171001_171209_375

Speaking of climbing! Fox did not want to come down from the very tall wildfire watch tower we climbed recently. He really loved being up there and able to see so far! It was a terrifying experience for me (I’m not crazy about heights), but I am glad I climbed it too because his smile was so big!

IMG_20171001_181411_761.jpg

I took the boys to a small petting zoo. I think feeding the parakeets was one of their favorite activities. We also got to feed a cow, baby deer and baby goats, a camel, a donkey, and so many more animals! Of course jumping in the bounce house was a big deal for them too. 😉

Despite the many challenges with this life change, we have made some great memories this summer! I cannot wait for the memories we will make this fall!

Lessons in Gratitude

June has been a busy month for me. It’s also been a very hard time as I’ve had to go without a lot of things I am used to each day. For starters, I’m living with a friend and am extremely grateful for the roof over my head.

Throughout these last weeks I’ve come to notice little things here and there that I wish I had, and days (or hours later) things have appeared in my life.

IMG_20170613_104518_219.jpg

I am grateful for a bed to sleep on. One I can make with both fitted and top sheets. And this gorgeous floral pattern, handmade quilt I get to enjoy right now.

IMG_20170622_105952_680.jpg

I was telling someone I really wanted an over the shoulder bag, and *the very next day* this lovely deep blue bag arrived. (Blue has been a significant color for me this month.)

IMG_20170607_094016_201.jpg

Despite my attempts to quit coffee earlier this year, I’m back to a full pot, or more, most days. I don’t know where my energy has gone, but I feel like I’m drinking coffee all day long! I had left my coffee mugs back home and my friend had a few here, but there weren’t enough to go around til someone else was done. A few days later this Arizona coffee mug showed up. I immediately knew it was meant for me because I had traveled to Arizona with my grandparents when I was 6-7 years old. This has brought a little joy to my mornings.

IMG_20170621_120512_417

I have been really missing my adult coloring books, three days later one was gifted to me! (Today actually, as I am writing this post.) I was excited to see there were several pages with butterflies!

IMG_20170622_101031_134.jpg

Last week I was just thinking it would be nice to have a new color to paint my nails, and one came to me which I absolutely adore!

IMG_20170621_124956_418

A final wish I made just hours ago: I wanted a new calendar, and now I have one (it was with the coloring book)!

Teaching the boys, mainly Fox, about gratitude was suggested by a friend. I have been asking Fox what things he is grateful for. As part of our evening/bedtime routine I have been asking him “what are two things that made you happy today?” I tried to explain grateful to him, but he didn’t quite grasp the concept yet. But the things that made him happy have involved other people or things we were able to do or cook or see that day which I think is really neat that he sees those are the things that make him happy/grateful. My heart melted last night when he told me “You make me happy, Mama!”

All of these little things are really big things to me. It’s been little reminders to trust my needs and desires will be met as I express them, even if only in my head. I’ve had many other things manifest for me during these weeks as well, but they are too personal to discuss so I won’t put that here. Trust that you are not alone and that your needs & desires matter. Spirit will listen.

May Journal

May has been a busy month full of many changes. I will post more about some of these changes in the coming months, but for now, our regularly scheduled, and a little late, journal of the little things we did this month!

IMG_20170502_205503_789

Fox called all these cows over to the fence! He’s done this many times, but never had this many follow him. There were about 30 of them. He would run along the fence to another section and they would follow him there and then he would run back the other way and they would follow him again. He found it quite hilarious!

IMG_20170502_205549_062

Bear loves watching the cows on our evening walks too.

IMG_20170503_145057_438.jpg

My peoeny bushes bloomed early in the month. I picked them many times to bring inside. Their scent filled the kitchen! It was lovely.

IMG_20170507_200314_643.jpg

Bear was very fascinated with the moon when we were outside in early evening. He kept pointing and saying “what’s this?”

IMG_20170509_191112_648

Bear made his Mimi a birthday card. He loved coloring! We’ll have to color more often.

IMG_20170509_093341_810

I celebrated my 26th birthday by baking a vegan Chocolate Cake and enjoying it with coffee.

IMG_20170524_154309_715

A very sweet friend sent me new LuLaRoe leggings for my birthday! This pair and one other pair which I haven’t tried on yet. I love them! They are so soft and comfy. I had these on my birthday list for this year and didn’t think it was going to happen and then she surprised me with them!

IMG_20170520_215525_234.jpg

Another dear friend sent me this gorgeous Kambaba Jasper Egg and Peace & Calming II. I’ve never seen a stone like this one! Its beautiful! She sent this little description with it: it’s said to be the ultimate stone for peace & tranquility, soothing for the nerves, and attracts prosperity. It also is a hopeful stone, helping heal heart wounds.

IMG_20170519_090342_410

Around my birthday I started combing out the ends of my dreads. I needed some change, but am not at all ready to have all my dreads gone. I thought a 50/50 was a good compromise. About 9 inches are dreaded and the ends are my natural, curly hair. I am loving this change! It was exactly what I needed.

IMG_20170520_214932_791.jpg

One of my sisters got married this month. At the wedding, Bear collected rocks.

IMG_20170520_215424_828

Fox throwing sticks in the water at one of the wedding events.

IMG_20170522_160726_334

For the first time in probably 5 years, I mowed the yard. My lines might be straight, but it all looked good. I found the quiet time to myself to be very refreshing.

IMG_20170524_185220_175

My oregano has a few sprigs of peppermint growing in it!

IMG_20170524_190908_012.jpg

They are my constant reminder to take no day for granted.

April Journal

IMG_20170409_093043_887.jpg

April was an interesting month. It mostly felt like life was on pause, but then everything was going by so quickly too. It was a weird month.

IMG_20170409_092836_888
Bear waving at the train.

The boys & I had a trip up to the zoo. They got to ride the train, play on this cool climbing thing, ride the carousel, brush the goats. It was a fun day trip. I was even barefoot for a bit!

IMG_20170409_153151_458.jpg

Fox & I spent several mornings on the couch. He played with a new mini lego kit he got and I worked on a crochet blanket *for myself*. In all the blankets I’ve made, I never worked on one for me. It’ll probably take forever to complete, but I’m very excited about it!

IMG_20170411_163758_578.jpg

I tried to quit coffee again… and again it was unsuccessful. I think I made it 9 days this time.

IMG_20170416_231528_641.jpg

The boys and I attempted to clear out the weeds from our organic garden. I have some volunteer kale and garlic coming back from last year. That was kind of neat to see those come back in.

IMG_20170415_093452_245.jpg
Waiting for water to fill in the pool.

The weather was very warm in the beginning of the month so the boys spent a lot of time outside, and many days splashing in the pool!

IMG_20170417_183932_975.jpg

We got a puppy! Roxy. She’s about 3 months old. She is a Pug/Blue Heeler mix. Fox is not crazy about her. I was hoping he would get used to her the longer she was around.

IMG_20170423_193650_698.jpg

Fox got some of the coolest ‘wipe-clean’ number cards for his “school”. He has been very interested in learning numbers so I bought some new supplies to help him learn in this interest area. He loves working with the cards! I cannot wait to get him the alphabet cards as well.

IMG_20170422_132149_763

Yoga practice was hit and miss. I did none for several weeks even, and then finally started getting back into it while working on a Root Chakra yoga flow at the end of the month.

IMG_20170425_132511_093.jpg

Near the end of the month we finally put together a menu that was mostly decent. We slacked off on eating well back in March and are finally getting back on track here at the end of April.

IMG_20170427_102836_379.jpg

I got a new tattoo! Some friends got it for me actually. I plan to write about it before too long. It has a lot of meaning. The day I went to get it, Fox was very upset he couldn’t go too. I told him I would bring him back some stick-on ones. That night I helped him put a few on and then later he wanted to put some on by himself. There was a butterfly one in the package (my new tattoo is of a butterfly). He put it on his knee then told me: “I have a butterfly too like yours mama!” I thought that was the sweetest.

IMG_20170417_221433_990

I made my first herbal tincture! It’s still making actually since it takes several weeks to be done. But it has alfalfa, nettles and red raspberry leaf. I cannot wait to see how it turns out!

IMG_20170417_222426_069

I also got through almost all of my herbal class before it expired. I was able to download the PDF of the class to catch up on eventually. I didn’t even finish my first herb profile (lavandula agustifolia), but maybe I’ll get to one day. I do think this is my favorite herb though! I would like to get some to keep on the porch.

IMG_20170417_154944_576

I had to show of my dreads too! They are forming so nicely! Just over a year old now.

IMG_20170417_132418_095

A friend came over and we swapped oils and I showed her how to make sauerkraut. I love having friends near by that are natural minded too!

IMG_20170422_114002_091.jpg

I have three books I’m working hard to read through. An Aromatherapy book by Julia Lawless, Medicinal Herbs by Rosemary Gladstar and The Complete Homeopathy Handbook by Miranda Castro (I just wrote a post about Homeopathy this month too!). These aren’t the only books I’m reading, but they are the main ones I’m working to finish right now.

IMG_20170421_141721_018.jpg

I got some new products from one of my favorite herbalists! Wild Earth Herbals. The Migraine tincture is amazing! I have used it several times now and definitely would recommend it! The tooth powder is really an interesting texture, but seems to be helping my teeth. This is my first experience with tooth powder. I have yet to brew the Adrenal Support tea, though I’m sure I need it since I am lacking in energy!

IMG_20170427_125533_465.jpg

I got a second order of cloth pads from my favorite: The Cloth Shop! Hers are the best! And such beautiful fabrics to choose from too! I definitely recommend shopping there for all your cloth needs.

IMG_20170428_132313_667.jpg

In closing, this is one of the few sunset photos I captured this month. It rained a lot so we would go for our daily walk any time it wasn’t raining, if it let up at all. Our town flooded because of all the rain! Fortunately our house is ok, but many people had water damage.
